"The dark aspects of human personality have a common denominator, that is, as is the case with the level of intelligence, we can say that they all have the same predisposition."
According to research results, every bad person in one way or another has signs of a "dark" personality. Psychopaths, narcissists, egotists, sadists, and downright mean people tend to put themselves first in the worst possible way.
As it turned out, all nine types of "dark" personalities are united by soulless selfishness and complete disregard for the rights of other people. At the same time, psychopaths, narcissists and sadists express their dark nature in slightly different ways, although each somehow justifies his immoral behavior in order to avoid feeling guilty.
Study co-author Dr. Ingo Zettler explains the so-called D-factor ("D" comes from the English word for "dark") as follows: they all have the same predispositions. For example, in one person, the D-factor can manifest itself in the form of narcissism, psychopathy, and any other dark character trait or a combination of both. But with our classification of common denominators for different types of dark personalities, it is very easy to determine if someone has a D-factor. The D-factor indicates the likelihood of a person exhibiting a type of behavior which reveals one or several dark qualities. Zettler conducted a series of studies involving more than 2,500 people. Each of the respondents had to say whether they agree with the following statements:
During the study, scientists examined the following factors of dark personality:
People with any of the D-factors displayed a tendency toward behavior that is inherent in most other types of dark personality.
Dr. Zettler argues that we are constantly surrounded by people with the dark factor: “This can be seen in cases of extreme cruelty, violation of rules, deception and fraud in the corporate or private sector. Therefore, knowledge of the personality D-factor can be a useful tool, for example, to assess the likelihood of a person committing a crime again or further deteriorating his behavior."
