Fear is a very interesting emotion. This is one of the basic human instincts that should protect us and make us act faster in dangerous situations.
But at the same time, fear is a deterrent that suppresses and prevents our self-expression and moving forward. It is fear that prevents us from living the life that we dream about, but do not dare to start, it is fear that prevents us from approaching people and being with those we want to be with.
It turns out that this instinct of self-preservation can ruin our lives. All the “what ifs” that hold us back are generated by the fear.
Each fear manifests itself in different ways, and people deal with it in different ways. A group of American psychologists conducted a study about the manifestation of fear in different types of people. They revealed several archetypes of fear that occur in everybody. You can read about them here and determine which one is present in your life. Procrastinator Or a perfectionist. Oddly enough, but it is one and the same. It is perfectionists who are inclined to postpone things or not start them at all, because they are afraid that everything will turn out imperfect. And since it’s an ideal and in most cases it doesn’t work out, these people prefer not to take any action at all than to have failed idea or project. Procrastinators tend to be indecisive when they need to act quickly. Usually they prefer to plan everything in detail, the organization of the process is more important than the actions themselves. As a result, many of their ideas and plans remain unrealized. The main advice to procrastinators is to leave the comfort zone and often say “yes” to everything new, even if not planned. One who always follows the rules This fear manifests itself in situations when everything goes wrong, and you have to break the rules and instructions. A person can literally start to panic, and a wild indignation arises inside of them: “how can it be so!” In fact, this is a fear of some kind of imaginary authority and of taking responsibility for the consequences.
These people are usually inclined to divide the world into “black and white” and try to impose their opinions on others.
People who experience this fear are very afraid of any change and even of the thought of doing something wrong. But the world is much brighter and more colorful than black and white, and an unknown path can lead to something new and better. Sometimes you need to take risks and break the rules, if justified.
Mr. "You're welcome."
The desire to please everyone arises from a deep fear of being rejected by others. What matters to these people is what others think of them, and they are afraid of public condemnation. The worst thing for them is to be ridiculed or rejected by someone. They pay a lot of attention to their appearance and worry about their reputation and social status. Tip: spend more time alone with yourself and learn to hear yourself first. Stop saying yes if you want to say no, and learn to set your boundaries when communicating with people. Outcast This is the opposite of those who are trying to please everyone. Such people are exactly the opposite, trying to be as different than the rest as possible, to show their individuality and the fact that they are not concerned about the opinions of others. Behind all this lies a huge fear of rejection. They are so afraid of not being accepted and understood that they themselves are moving away from people. If you think: “I don't need anyone, I can be on my own,” then this archetype of fear is about you. Actually, it is necessary to spend time with others, but you are so afraid of being rejected that you prefer to keep your distance from other people. What do these people need to do? Improve self-esteem, do not be afraid to ask for help and show your feelings.
The doubting one
These people are very unsure of themselves and their capabilities. In fact, they are afraid of expressing themselves. They are afraid of the opinions of others. Doubts often prevent such people from starting something new, they doubt everything, they criticize themselves and often envy those who achieve something. Tip: start doing what you always thought and dreamed about, even if it’s very scary. Otherwise, you can live your whole life waiting for the right moment to come and envying of the successes of others. Each one of us can manifest these archetypes, but some of them are more dominant than others. Have you found yourself in these descriptions? Good. Determining the type of fear you have is the first step in dealing with it.
