There is a deep, accurate and vital observation of the British classic Oscar Wilde about love and reciprocity of feelings. We will paraphrase it here: “It is not true that a person who loves you cannot leave you! They can! Believe me! They can!
He will do this, sooner or later realizing that the relationship with you does not bring him joy and happiness, that giving all of himself to you, doing everything for you and sacrificing a lot, in order to be near you, he does not receive anything in exchange, that you disappoint him, that when he put you on a pedestal, you did not give him a hand and did not put him on this pedestal next to him... But it is thanks to him that you are now standing on this pedestal...
He knows that you don’t have to give him anything in return, that you don’t have to raise it to your level, that you don’t have to risk it and sacrifice even the smallest, so for him such relationships become unbearable... He will leave you then, when he realizes that he means less to you than you do to him ... He will not tell you anything, he will not blame you for anything, you will not even suspect anything... Indeed, it’s stupid to demand or even ask for reciprocity, love or understanding... He will leave quietly, silently and, worst of all, forever ... And what is even worse is the fact that such people will never come back."
