If you are by nature a good person, then you probably know the Golden Rule: "Do not do good - you will not get evil."
Unfortunately, it works almost always that way. But why is this happening? If you have ever asked yourself this question, I strongly advise you to read this parable; you will find the answer in it, and what is most important, you will understand how to live with the injustice in this world.
Once, a young stranger knocked on the door of an old sage, and, bursting with tears, told the old man her story.
“I do not know how I can continue in this world...”, she said with trepidation. "All my life I have treated people as I would like them to treat me, I was sincere with them and opened my soul to them ... Whenever possible, I tried to do good to everyone, not expecting anything in return. I really did it all for free, but in return I got only evil and ridicule. I feel very hurt and tired ... I beg you, tell me, what should I do?" The sage patiently listened to her and then gave the girl advice: “Get naked and walk like that the city streets.” "Sorry, but I haven’t come to that yet ... You must be crazy or kidding me! If I do that I don’t know what to expect from people ... They would treat me with dishonor and abuse me..." The old man suddenly got up, opened the door and put a mirror on the table. “You are ashamed to go out into the street naked, but for some reason you are not at all ashamed to go around the world with a naked soul, opened like this door, wide open! You let everyone in. Your soul is a mirror, which is why we all see ourselves reflected in other people. Their soul is full of evil and vices - it is such an ugly picture that they see exactly that when they look into your pure soul. They lack strength and courage to admit that you are better than them, and they refuse to change. Unfortunately, this is the destiny of only truly good and honest people." "What should I do? How can I change this situation if, in fact, nothing depends on me?" - asked the girl.
- Come with me, I'll show you something ... Look, this is my garden. For many years now I have been watering these plants of unprecedented beauty and taking care of them. Frankly, I have never seen the buds of these flowers open. They do it without me noticing their blossoming. Dear child, learn from nature. Look at these wonderful flowers and do as they do - open your heart and soul to people carefully so that no one even notices. Open your soul only to good people. Get away from those who cut off your petals, throw them under their feet and trample on them. These weeds have not yet grown up to you, so you will not help them in any way. They will only see an ugly reflection of themselves in your pure soul."
